What are some creative greeting card ideas?

Sending out sentimental or funny holiday cards is a great way to spread holiday cheer to friends, coworkers and loved ones this season. While simply giving out a card with a heartfelt message is a timeless way to show someone you’re thinking about them, there are many other ways you can incorporate greeting cards into this time of gift-giving. Here are ten creative ideas you can use.

1. Create a Greeting Card Puzzle

Children are notorious for skipping over holiday greeting cards and only reaching for the flashy toy inside. A great idea that is sure to get your card read is to cut up a regular old greeting card into a fun puzzle that reveals an image and personalized message on the back. It is best to use cardstock or thicker paper for this fun project.

2. Make Gift Boxes

If you have old cards lying around or you ordered way more than you need, they can easily be converted into creative gift boxes. Simply draw a square with half circles on each side into the card. Cut out the shape, and you can paste a decorative square onto the inside of the box. Next, place the gift inside and close the box using tape.

3. Convert Cards into Ornaments

Make easy Christmas card ornaments by cutting large circles into the covers of custom greeting cards. Next, you can either cut and paste a printed greeting onto the back of the circle or simply handwrite a personalized message. Punch a hole on the top and add a hook or some string.

4. Transform Gift Bags

Spruce up small, plain gift bags by cutting out the cover of the greeting card and gluing it onto the front of the bag. You can add some more decorations such as ribbons, candy canes, or pinecones.

5. Make Gift Tags

Cut up holiday greeting cards into smaller rectangles to make gift tags for all your presents this year. Punch a hole into the top of the tag and tie a piece of string around it. Don’t forget to label who is the gift is to and from.

6. Create Canning Jar Toppers

If you plan on sending out your famous jam or other goodies in jars to your loved ones, old greeting cards are a great way to add ad decorative touch. Take the lid off the jar and trace its shape into the card. Next, cut out the circle and place it on top of the jar lid. Secure it in place with the jar rim.

7. Cut Out Holiday Bookmarks

If one of your loved ones is an avid reader, transform their greeting card into a bookmark they can use for years to come. Simply cut the card into a long rectangular shape and punch a hole near the top. Tie some string onto the hole and add any decorative touches such as tassels or beads. Write a message on the back of the bookmark.
